3 Piece Waterstone Set at Amazon

3 Piece Waterstone Set

Keep your valuable tools in peak condition! 3 Piece Waterstone Set A sure savings over buying the person stones.

Includes:

800/4000 combining waterstone.
6000 single grit waterstone.
Nagura stone.

To remove littler nicks and do a finish sharpening of woodworking chisels and other tools, the 800/4000 combining is the best choice. Then use the 6000 waterstone for creating a polished edge.

Combination stones are 8-1/8″ long X 2-1/8″ wide X 1-1/8″ thick.

Single grit stones are 8″ long X 2 – 5/8″ wide X 1 – 3/8″ thick.

Made from exceedingly tough man made abrasive material, these stones cut more quickly than oilstones. Stones must be soaked in water prior to use and held wet with water for the duration of use. Waterstones construct a slurry to speed the honing process.

Nagura Stone –
Forms a paste on finer grit Waterstones to speed and heighten polishing. Use with the 6000 grit stone.

1Not what’s advertised
By Michael J. Roetzel
The good: Shipped quickly, and for free! Comes packaged in a nice box holding everything, and nice boxes holding the individual stones.

The so-so: The picture on this amazon page, which is the same as the one on the box, shows a natural-style chunk of nagura stone. That’s not what you get. What you get is a solid rectangle of artificial nagura stone. Now, I actually prefer this, so I’m ok with it. Still, it’s just nothing like the picture.

The BAD: Another quick note about the picture: the combination stone is shown larger than the single stone. Again, not correct: they’re the same length. But the real problem is the exact sizes of the stones. The combination stone is advertised thus: “Combination stones are 8-1/8″ long X 2-1/8″ wide X 1-1/8″ thick.” They are not. I have my new, just-opened stone at hand, along with a ruler. It is 7 1/4″ long x 2 1/2″ wide x 1″ thick, with a 1/8″ thick piece of plastic separating the layers. (Again, not something you can see in the photo.

The single stone is described thus: “Single grit stones are 8″ long X 2 – 5/8″ wide X 1 – 3/8″ thick.”

My actual measurements are 7 1/4″ long x 2 1/2″ wide x 7/16″ thick.

Total volume of stone advertised: 19.4238 (combination) + 28.875 = 48.2988 square inches.
Total volume of stones received: 15.859 + 7.975 = 23.834 square inches.
Difference: 24.4648 square inches.

So, the actual product is less than HALF what is advertised. Which matters a lot, when it comes to water stones.

It’s still a nice set of stones, but the difference between what was promised and what was received is simply huge. I’m very dissatisfied with this purchase, and with Rockler.

5When sharp matters
By R. Monroe

I keep a large survival type knife in my truck and survival bag that has a huge blade 9″. The blade was made in china so i knew my sharpening skills would be challenged. So i gave in and brought in the big guns.
This triple set + Nagura stone absolutely commanded a great edge from the given steel!
Next i will get a nicer (smaller) boot knife with better metallurgic properties and post results here!
